The crew of MRQ North Stradbroke have been supporting the local community with on-water rescue services since 1977.
Our base is located on the western side of North Stradbroke Island, overlooking One Mile in Dunwich. We support an operational area south to Macleay Island, west to the mainland, north to the mouth of the Brisbane River and east across the South Passage Bar to offshore waters off Point Lookout and Moreton Island.
We support the boating public when they run into trouble on the water, and also work with the Queensland Ambulance Service to assist with medical evacuations from the island to the mainland. Our unit operates in cooperation with the Queensland Water Police and other emergency service units to support search and rescue activities and provide support during weather or emergency events.
MRQ North Stradbroke operates in conjunction with local MRQ, VMR and AVCGA units to provide support to the boating community. If you require support when travelling in the region outside our area, contact VMR Raby Bay, QF2 Brisbane, MRQ Victoria Point or QF7 Redland Bay.
In addition to providing rescue services, our volunteer crews work together to maintain our base and rescue vessels and also come together regularly to participate in training and community activities. Our members are trained in a range of marine operations including first aid, marine radio, bar crossing, and emergency search and rescue procedures.
Volunteering with MRQ is a great way to give back to our local community, learn some new skills and enjoy the camaraderie and friendship of a crew of dedicated volunteers. Some people even use volunteering as an opportunity to start a career in the marine industry.
We provide training, uniforms, support and assistance, so no matter your experience or skill level, you’ll find a role that helps to contribute to our operation.

Remember to always follow the marine safety rules and continue to Log On and Log Off via your local unit or VHF radio.
