MRQ Redland Bay is based at Weinam Creek, supporting the boating community across southern Moreton Bay and surrounding waterways.
The unit has a proud history of service stretching back decades. Its origins can be traced to local boaties who began supporting marine safety in the Redland Bay area before the Redland Bay Flotilla of the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard was formally established in 1986.
Known for 40 years as Coast Guard QF7 Redland Bay, generations of volunteers gave their time, skills and local knowledge to assist people on the water and help keep the Redlands boating community safe.
On 28 August 2026, Redland Bay became the first Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Flotilla in Queensland to transition to Marine Rescue Queensland, marking an important milestone in the establishment of Queensland's unified marine rescue service.
Today, that proud Coast Guard legacy continues as MRQ Redland Bay. While the name, uniforms and colours have changed, the unit remains supported by dedicated local volunteers with extensive knowledge of the area's waterways and a shared commitment to helping the community.
