Body

Through changing times and tides, the volunteers of MRQ Bribie Island have supported their island community and the thousands of boaties who flock to the area on weekends and public holidays, providing expert guidance and assistance to those who need help on the water.

The unit began in 1970, evolving from the Bribie Island Boating and Fishing Club, to the Bribie Island Air Sea Rescue in 1982, and then becoming Volunteer Marine Rescue Bribie Island in March 1997.

Our dedicated volunteers provide more than 22,000 hours of volunteer service each year to the community, conducting regular patrols, maintaining radio watch and providing training and education activities in addition to their rescue services.

We cover an area of operation over 500 square miles, commencing 2 nautical miles south of the Caloundra Bar, throughout the Pumicestone Passage, to 10 nautical miles east of Moreton Island and north of the area from Redcliffe to Tangalooma in Moreton Bay.

The base is open - with crews on the water - every weekend from 07:00 to 17:00. Our radio room is manned from 05:00 to 18:00 every day.  We operate 24hrs a day, 7 days per week with after-hours operators and rescue crews available at all times.

We work closely with other emergency services in the region, including the Qld Water Police, Qld Fire and Rescue, Qld Ambulance Service, and the SES.

MRQ Bribie Island operates in conjunction with local MRQ, VMR and AVCGA units to provide support to the boating community in the south-east corner. If you require support when travelling outside our area, contact QF4 CaloundraQF3 Redcliffe, and VMR Brisbane.

Remember to always follow the marine safety rules and continue to Log On and Log Off via your local unit or VHF radio
