Body

MRQ Southport West is based at Marine Parade, Southport, on the shores of the Gold Coast Broadwater.

The unit has a proud history of volunteer marine rescue stretching back more than 60 years. Formerly Australian Volunteer Coast Guard QF1 Southport, it was the first Coast Guard flotilla established in Queensland and has supported generations of Gold Coast boaties from its Marine Parade base.

On 18 September 2026, QF1 Southport transitioned to Marine Rescue Queensland, becoming MRQ Southport West.

While the name and organisation have changed, the unit’s commitment to keeping people safe on the water continues. MRQ Southport West carries forward the experience, knowledge and legacy of generations of Coast Guard volunteers as part of Queensland’s statewide marine rescue service.
