Marine Rescue Queensland (MRQ) Sandy Straits has a proud history of supporting the boating community across the Great Sandy Strait and surrounding waterways.
Formerly Coast Guard Sandy Straits QF21, the unit is based at Boonooroo and has been built on the dedication of generations of volunteers committed to helping people on the water.
Our volunteers bring valuable local knowledge of the Great Sandy Strait, Mary River and the network of waterways that make this part of the Fraser Coast such a popular destination for boating and fishing.
The unit provides marine rescue and assistance services, supports safer boating and maintains a strong connection with the communities it serves.
The transition to Marine Rescue Queensland marks a new chapter for the unit, carrying forward its proud Coast Guard history as part of Queensland’s statewide marine rescue service.
As MRQ Sandy Straits, our volunteers remain committed to being there when the boating community needs us and helping keep people safe on the water.
