92-year-old MRQ Currumbin Radio Operator Brenda Warren has signed off for the final time, bringing to a close an extraordinary 41 years of active volunteer service with marine rescue.
For more than four decades, Brenda has been a calm and reassuring presence on the radio, supporting countless rescue operations and helping keep mariners safe. Her dedication, professionalism and commitment to helping others has left a lasting mark on the Currumbin community and the wider marine rescue family.
To mark her final radio broadcast, Brenda was the guest of honour at a special gathering attended by family, friends and fellow MRQ volunteers. The occasion celebrated not only her remarkable service, but also the friendships, support and sense of community she has helped foster over the years.
As part of the celebration, Brenda received a Certificate of Appreciation from Chief Officer Wulff. The certificate recognised her "legacy of dedication, generosity, and unwavering commitment to helping others" and acknowledged the lasting contribution she has made through her calm presence on the radio, her support of fellow volunteers, and the countless hours she has devoted to marine rescue operations.
While Brenda is retiring from active radio operations, her connection with MRQ is far from over. We are delighted that she will continue her association with Marine Rescue Queensland as a volunteer member.
On behalf of everyone at Marine Rescue Queensland, thank you, Brenda, for your extraordinary 41 years of service. Your contribution has made a lasting difference, and your legacy will continue to inspire generations of volunteers to come.
